The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and the Jesuit legacy to men and women of faith continues to thrive.  The question is how to make the Exercises even more available.

Discerning the future of the Spiritual Exercises Ministry – is a three-stage process to discern how to move forward in the ministry of the Exercises, beginning with broad consultation including the full range of institutions and organizations that are involved in the ministry. The process also includes those who participate in Ignatian ministry outside of institutions and organizations sponsored by the Society of Jesus (retreat houses run by other communities, diocesan parishes, etc.). Click here to view a letter from Fr. Provincial David Ciancimino, S.J., about the process.

Discernment for Boards of Directors - is a four-stage process using the Spiritual Exercises to enable boards of directors, parish councils, and staffs to understand, value, and proceed in an Ignatian manner, and to use communal discernment in the course of regular business. Increasingly, lay men and women are leaders in governing boards and councils.  The program is currently being piloted with boards and councils of a parish, a high school, and a retreat house.

Contemplative Leaders In Action (CLIA) – a two-year formation program for men and women in their twenties and thirties, which draws from the Spiritual Exercises and is designed to nurture faith-centered leaders so that they can impact society and culture. The program comprises retreats, monthly meetings involving lectures and discussions, study, mentoring, and service work. CLIA is currently operating in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.; and starting in Syracuse, NY in Fall 2011. Click here for more information.

Ignatian Leadership for Mission Retreats – five-day (four-night) retreats for Jesuits and lay colleagues in the Maryland, New York and New England Provinces focusing on the graces: Gratitude, Healing, Call, and Co-laboring. The retreat format combines presentation, silent reflection, and small group discussion. Upcoming Schedule: January 17-21 at St. Ignatius Jesuit Retreat House, Manhasset, NY; March 25-30 at The Jesuit Center, Wernersville, PA;  June 10-15 at Campion Renewal Center, Weston, MA.  Click here for more information.

Magis Program – a structured and creative way for lay men and women who work in Jesuit ministries to more deeply engage in Ignatian spirituality, learn about the Jesuit Mission and Way of Proceeding, and meet other committed lay colleagues from the many and varied Jesuit works. The eighteen-month program consists of four seminars, a retreat, regular reading, personal reflection and prayer. The program team and seminar presenters are fellow lay and Jesuit colleagues who work in Jesuit ministries. Click here for more information.

National and regional conferences – The Jesuit Collaborative has sponsored major “national” conferences on Ignatian Spirituality at St. Joseph’s University in 2004, Fairfield University in 2007, and Fordham University in 2009. The next major conference sponsored by TJC is scheduled to be held at Loyola University Maryland, June 29-July1, 2012.

Program in Directing the Spiritual Exercises – a collaboration with Jesuit universities, the program is designed to form people not only to direct The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola but to help form others once the participants have completed the program. Aimed at people with institutional affiliations and possibilities for supervised ministry in the coming year, the program is intensive, offered over two summers with work in the intervening fall, winter, and spring.

Jesuit Masters Program – invites Jesuits who have been away from active practice of the ministry of the Exercises to learn and lead Ignatian 19th Annotation retreats and to hone their listening and discerning skills for spiritual direction. The program comprises: teaching elements of spiritual direction, the Spiritual Exercises, human experience and some psychology; participants’ prayer and their agreement to explore it with others; role-plays; focused readings between meetings; regular individual supervision with a member of the staff and group supervision as part of the group meetings; an actual supervised 19th Annotation retreat. The program has been conducted over the course of seven all-day monthly sessions. For additional information, send an e-mail to collaborative@jesuitcollaborative.org.

Ignatian Partners – TJC is forming a corps of Ignatian Partners to collaborate with staff and help develop and deliver its programs. These partners will be lay and religious men and women who are trained in Ignatian ministry and/or have experience and expertise in fields that support the ministry such as program management, communications, fundraising, etc. The Ignatian Partners will play a vital role in developing and implementing TJC’s programs, enabling more people to receive the gifts of Ignatian Spirituality and the Spiritual Exercises.
