Barry, S.J. will use the analogy of human friendship to understand what God desires and the development hoped for in the one who makes the Spiritual Exercises as a development in friendship with God. If time permits he will consider a number of cases. Formerly Director of the Center for Religious Development in Cambridge, Mass, Bill is the author of numerous books and articles on Ignatian Spirituality and is currently tertian director for the New England Province of Jesuits.

Rev. Brian McDermott, S.J. will explore the Christ of the Spiritual Exercises, especially in the Two Standards, from the viewpoint opened by René Girard and James Alison, as our desire is converted from violence and lies to solidarity with the victims.
