Project Manager - Contemplative Leaders in Action Program

The project manager will be accountable for implementing the Contemplative Leaders in Action program in New York. He/she will be the "face" of this program to participants and guest speakers, the primary source of continuity as each cohort proceeds through the two-year experience, and the key catalyst who will insure that that participants learn and grow through this experience. To achieve these goals, the ideal candidate must be a highly accountable self-manager who can interact credibly with young adults who are distinguishing themselves in a range of careers. He/she must make participants feel welcomed, engaged, and enthused about doing the personal work that will lead to their success. He/she should be familiar with Ignatian spirituality and bring some other relevant background or skill set to the program, for example, an expertise in adult formation or in leadership development. A bachelor's degree will be required, and advanced post-graduate work is desirable. This part-time position will report to the Executive Director of the Jesuit Collaborative. This consultant position will not be eligible for fringe benefits.

Time commitment:

The program manager will prepare for and moderate a monthly meeting of the cohort, will attend and help facilitate two or three full day or weekend spiritual retreats in the course of a calendar year, and will interact regularly with program participants, mentors, guest speakers, etc in order to ensure the program's success.

Specific duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Help recruit, screen, and interview potential participants in the program.
  • Match participants to appropriate mentors, spiritual directors, and service placements.
  • Prepare each monthly meeting of the cohort, using the curriculum guide as a basis, in order to insure a well-ordered, dynamic meeting that produces optimal results for the participants. Meeting preparation and meeting execution tasks will include, for example:
    • briefing guest speakers on the program and our expectations of them in advance of meetings
    • leading thoughtful, provocative, focused discussion among participants; preparing for and leading book or reading discussions as appropriate
    • serving as “teacher/lecturer” when the curriculum guide calls for presentation of a topic that may fall within the program manager's area of professional expertise (e.g. how to do the Ignatian examen)
  • Gather "lessons learned" during the program in order to help strengthen the program in succeeding years.
  • Expand and annotate the "curriculum guide" so that it becomes an effective "how to" manual that benefits other cities that will launch this program in future years.

Finally, the program manager must bring a "can do" attitude to this task, appreciating that there will be need to pitch in and take care of the nitty-gritty "housekeeping" tasks that are essential to the smooth functioning of a program that will operate without on-site support staff.

Administrative Support:

The Program Manager will receive part-time administrative support from the Administrative Assistant to the Jesuit Collaborative. The administrator can be called upon, for example, to prepare mailings to the program participants, confirm bookings or other logistical arrangements.
