Magis In Action

At the Fairfield conference last June, we were reminded that “we can’t dream big enough” for the Collaborative. It didn’t take long for someone to not only dream big but take action to help that dream become a reality. John and Margarete McNeice, long-time and generous friends and benefactors of the Society of Jesus, have made a $1 million commitment to support the ministry of adult faith formation. Reflecting on the Collaborative’s work in this area John stated, “This is probably the most important thing going on in the Church today. The mission of the Jesuit Collaborative is to keep the spirit of St. Ignatius and the Spiritual Exercises alive and to make them available to both religious and lay people.”
Moved by the generosity and thoughtfulness of the McNeice’s decision, Fr. Thomas J. Regan, SJ, provincial of the New England Province of Jesuits, stated, “John and Margarete McNeice honor the Society by their discernment in thinking about the needs of the New England Province and the people we serve. Their gift honors the legacy of St. Ignatius and the tenets of their Jesuit education.”
Fr. Ronald A. Mercier, SJ, executive director of the Collaborative, added, “It is clear that John and Margarete take the Gospel seriously and their faith has helped them to find where God will best be served.”
The McNeice’s gift will support the work of training leaders in Ignatian spirituality in New England and help the Collaborative pursue the Magis of its founding purpose.
