Jesuit Collaborative

The First Meeting of our Board of Directors

Legally, the Jesuit Collaborative took an important step forward on July 15 as an interim Board of Directors (the members of the Strategic Planning Committee who had helped shape the original vision of the Collaborative) voted itself out of existence and paved the way for the emergence of a new Board, elected by the Jesuit Provincials of Maryland, New England and New York Provinces.

This new Board, led by interim chair Fr. Walter Smith, SJ, met just before the Conference was to begin on June 15th. It sought to familiarize itself with the strategic plan of the Collaborative and to plan how best to launch this new venture.

The meeting also gave the new members of the Board, who come from all three Provinces and from a wide variety of backgrounds, the chance to get to know each other. Times of shared prayer opened and closed the meeting and emphasized its Ignatian character.

The next Board meeting will be held Sept. 23-24; we’ll profile our board members more fully in our next issue.
